Why Soy Wax Isn't the Answer
Soy wax is often sold as a cleaner alternative to paraffin, and technically it is, but it still starts as hydrogenated vegetable oil. Commercial versions are usually made through solvent processing and may include paraffin blends even when they're labeled as natural. Plus, soy has a lower melting point, which means the candle gets used up faster. For that reason, many formulations include additives to get the soy wax to the right firmness.
The Beeswax Advantage
Beeswax melts between 144 and 149°F, and that higher threshold, paired with its greater density of near 0.96 g/cm³, means the solid wax turns to liquid and then vapor much more slowly than soy or paraffin. The flame thus draws fuel at a measured pace, produces a longer burn, and throws off a lot less soot when the cotton wick stays trimmed to about a quarter inch.

Pure beeswax requires no added fragrance oils, dyes, or stabilizers. Its natural composition of long-chain esters, hydrocarbons, and fatty acids remains stable under ordinary candle temperatures. Volatile compounds retained from the hive give your candle a light, honey-like aroma without any need for synthetic fragrance molecules.

The flame from a beeswax candle actually releases negative ions. These bind to positively charged particles in the air, such as dust, pollen, and certain pollutants, and cause them to settle. Controlled comparisons of paraffin, soy, palm, and stearin show that well-made candles of every type can burn with low emissions when the wicks are correctly sized and so long as you've put in the effort to get ones with minimal additives, but beeswax still starts cleaner right from the beginning: and it produces a negative ion-rich, steadier, brighter flame with a light spectrum closer to natural daylight.
